The Long Leaf Pine hiking trail is within the FDR State Park in Georgia. It’s a loop trail just under 7 miles and is surprisingly quiet and rocky with a nice overlook at buzzard’s roost. And yes, there are groves of Long Leaf Pines reaching for the sky. The morning of my hike the weather was overcast with mist and fog which made for an eerie scene and served nicely to keep other people indoors. I wandered off trail for a free-hike and found a junk heap of old artifacts. If you do this watch out for fire ants and snakes. I encountered both in the woods. Luckily I only got bit by the Ants! Back on the trail be on the lookout for an indian trail tree that can easily be spotted.
